Anyway, with doing the Streak on ESPN, I was there making a pick and I came across something that caught my attention. It seems that on Saturday the World's Championship Duck Calling Contest will be going on in Stuttgart, Arkansas. This is what the contestants look like while participating:(Photos from ESPN.com and Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce)
These guys stand on a stage shaped like a duck blind, and do their calls "for crowds of more than 10,000 hard-core revelers" according to Steve Bowman's article on ESPN.com's Outdoor page. Up for grabs, should you be crowned the World's Champion of calling ducks is "cash, shotguns and an assortment of hunting equipment." Wow...seriously, wow. Now I know that there are some folks that are really into this, but it just sounds rather redneck to me. My biggest question I suppose would be how you judge this contest. I mean is there someone who knows how the calls are really supposed to sound, or do they judge it on the number of ducks that come waddleing up to each caller?
It's kind of like the Ro-Sham-Bo World Championship's in Las Vegas...although this does seem to take more skill and practice to be able to do successfully. Well good luck to all who are participating this Saturday there in Stuttgart...may you quack as you've never quacked before. Peace and Love y'all.
